Don’t Let These Nocturnal Pests Steal Your Family’s Night

Bed Bug

Witt’s Pest Control can provide you with a reasonably priced and effective Bed Bug service.

Bed bugs (Bedbugs) have come back into our society, homes, and businesses. Though originally in hotels that catered to international travelers, they are highly contagious and can infest anywhere people or pets reside. Witt’s Pest Control has been treating them in Indianapolis homes, schools, churches, nursing homes, and businesses with good success.

These pests do not inhabit just beds. They can be found throughout a home and Bed Bugs can be tough to control. They hide in many places such as beds, closets, and furniture, behind pictures, in tiny cracks in the wall, baseboards, and elsewhere. A young bed bug can fit in a crack the width of a piece of paper. So inspections and treatments must be done thoroughly and by a skilled professional.

Prevention of Bed Bug Infestations

In most cases it is not necessary to throw out your mattress and box springs. However, Witt’s Pest Control highly recommends getting Bed Bug zippered covers for all mattresses and box springs. This keeps the mattress and box springs encapsulated so they will not be reinfested and exposed to any Bed Bugs or allow any eggs to be laid within their cracks or crevices.

To prevent you having to shop around for various sizes and professional grade covers, Witt’s Pest Control can supply you with high quality covers that are washable and comfortable to use.

Bedbug Service Preparation

Preparation is the key element for success as Pest Management professionals need the cooperation of the customer to effectively control this pest. Before a licensed technician can treat a home for Bed Bugs, the client must:

  1. Organize any clutter (boxes, newspapers, shoes, and luggage) in all bedroom and living room areas. Throw out items that you don’t need. Leave the remaining items in the middle of the room.
  2. Remove all linens from beds couches, sofas, and windows. Along with all the household clothing, launder all items in HOT water and dry thoroughly. Any clothing items that are clean can be put in the dryer for 1 hour to eliminate the cleaning process. Store all items in fresh plastic garbage bags that are tied tightly. After treatment, try to leave as much in these bags until 2 weeks with no activity has occurred. This will save you the trouble of redoing these preparations if a second extermination visit is necessary.
  3. Take down all picture frames or hanging items and lean them up against the walls for treatment. These items should stay down for 24 Hours after treatment before being put back. Also, remove all covers from electrical outlets and switch plates.
  4. Move all furniture one foot away from walls; empty each piece of furniture in bedrooms and living rooms. Rarely, some items may need to be discarded if heavily infested. Exterminators will need to pull back from the underside of furniture and box springs any mesh cloth covering these areas to spray inside.
  5. Vacuum any and all carpeting and sofas. Throw vacuum bags out immediately or empty any bag less containers.
  6. Any visitor, traveler or furniture can reintroduce Bed Bugs to the building and pose the possibility of re-infestation if not addressed or avoided.
  7. After treatment is completed, the customer must stay out of the treated building for a minimum of three hours and upon returning should vacuum once again.
